Srinagar, Dec 12: All Traders Union Qamarwari on Wednesday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding rehabilitation of shopkeepers whose shops will be removed in road widening project.
Scores of protesters assembled here in press enclave and chanted slogans “we want rehabilitation”.
General Secretary of the union, Mohammad Sultan Katjoo said the road widening from Batamaloo to Qamarwari was started in 2002-2003 and was completed after shopkeepers cooperated with authorities.
“Now the 2nd phase of road widening from Qamarwari chowk to Paramipora is under process.
We demand authorities to rehabilitate all shopkeepers whose shops are being removed in road widening,” he added.
The protesters said that they should be given alternative shops in the vicinity, which will save our livelihood and we will be able to feed our families.
