PDP gets another shock

In yet another jolt to Peoples Democratic Party another senior leader of the party Haseeb Drabu has finally said goodbye to the PDP.
“Even though I have not been a dissident, you are aware I had resigned from the cabinet, assembly, and party nearly two years ago, a resignation which you did not accept. I have disengaged myself from party affairs for quite some time now,” Drabu has written in a resignation letter he has sent to the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti.
Drabu was the main architect of the PDP-BJP alliance as he held negotiations with the BJP’s point man for Jammu and Kashmir Ram Madhav and it was due to his efforts that BJP-PDP coalition became a reality in the state. Drabu was suitably rewarded for his hard work and was given plum Finance Ministry. He landed in trouble in beginning of this year over his controversial remark over Kashmir. He had stated that “Kashmiris have been barking at a wrong tree” during all these years. His remarks triggered a row in the Valley following which the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti stripped him of his portfolio. Since that day Drabu has been maintaining distance from the party and his resignation was inevitable.
PDP losing power brought the resentment which was brewing against the party leadership to the fore as one by one its leaders joined the chorus against the PDP top brass and accused it of converting the party into a family affair.
Another senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh has already hinted that he would be saying goodbye to the party as he stands sidelined and the party top brass has been ignoring him. The PDP is on the cross roads as one leader after another is saying goodbye to the party.
