Kupwara, Dec 3: A Forest Gaurd was injured after timber smugglers attacked a forest protection team in Sheikpora Hiril Village of north Kashmir’s Handwara in Kupwara district.
Naseer Ahmad, an official said that the smugglers were asked to stop at the naka laid by forest team around 3am on Saturday.
“They attacked the team before fleeing from the spot on Horses, resulting in injuries to a forest Gaurd” he said, adding that the injured forest Gaurd was identified as Zahoor Ahmad Khan.
Meanwhile Police station Qalamabad after receiving a written letter from the forest team has registered a Case FIR Number 82/18 us 332/ 336 RPC 6 FA against nine smugglers in this regard.
“We lodged FIR against nine persons (smugglers) and the investigation were taken up” said SHO qalamabad Abdul Ahad
It is pertinent to mention here that Jaffar Aziz, a local journalist working with KNB few hours before the incident reported about the timer smuggling in the area, and was threatened of dire consequences about the report writing by unknown persons over phone probably of Forest department.
