Governor Satya Pal Malik has put the speculations to rest by writing a letter to the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the Governor’s Administration is not planning to make any changes in PRC rules and he should not pay heed to “frivolous and unfounded reports.”
The Governor Malik acted promptly and put the controversy to rest. Otherwise there was every possibility about matter snowballing into yet another controversy, which could have had far reaching consequences.
The Permanent Resident Certificates provide exclusive rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this system cannot be fiddled with. As its Jammu and Kashmir is facing lot of problems and the need of the hour is to ensure that sensitive issues are kept at bay. Even a small spark can trigger Valley wide agitation.
Sine the day Governor’s rule has been imposed in the state the entire administration has been on toes and people have felt the change on the governance front. The Governor’s administration should focus on governance and the issues which touch the skin of a common man. The need of the hour is to fill in the void between the people and the state.
The Governor Malik has taken some bold decisions since he replaced his predecessor N N Vohra but he still needs to do a lot to win the hearts and minds of the people. The state has to tell the people that it’s job is not only confined to fighting militancy. Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive state and it needs to be handled with care. The people at the helm should avoid fishing in troubled waters as it could lead to law and order problems.
