Mir Hafizullah’s killing: SHRC seeks report from police, adminstration

Srinagar, Nov 29: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairman Justice (Rtd) Bilal Nazki on Thursday issued notices to the SSP and the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag asking them to file a detailed compliance report about the killing of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat district president Hafizullah Mir.
He was killed by unknown gunmen on November 25 outside his home in south Kashmir’s Achabal.
The notices to the SSP and DC Shopian were sent in response to the petition filed by chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Ahsan Untoo.
The petitioner had already announced that he will bear the educational expenses of all three children of the slain TeH leader besides asking the commission to launch a probe to indentify the “unknown killers.”
The petitioner said that despite the fact the slain leader had already made public the threats given to him by the unknown people, the government and the police failed to protect his life with the result he fell to the bullets of unknown gunmen.
Untoo said that he has urged the commission to conduct a time bound inquiry into the killing of Hafizullah to identity the unknown people involved in the killing of Hurriyat activists in Kashmir.
