Srinagar, Nov 23: Six militants were killed in a gunfight at Sekipora area of Bijbehara town in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
A police official said that a joint team of Army’ and Police launched a cordon and search operation before dawn at Sekipora following inputs about the presence of militants.
As soon as the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight. “Six militants killed during fierce gunfight, arms & ammunition,” Srinagar based defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.
The slain militants were identified as Unais @ Furkaan District commander, Noor ul haq both Takibal village of Bijbehara, Hamza of Waghama village Bijbehara, Dr Burhan of SK colony Anantnag town, Luqman of Bijbehara town and Huriara of Bijbehra town.
Reportedly restrictions imposed in Islamabad and its adjoining areas due to law and order. Mobile internet service also snapped in district.
Meanwhile, police said in one of the most successful operations of this year so far six militants killed. “Operation was launched last night on a hideout in foothills of Waghama Sutkipora of Bijbeihara Anantnag. Six bodies of militants and six rifles recovered,” police spokesman said.
