The Peoples Democratic Party co-founder Muzaffar Hussain Baig has dropped the bombshell by stating that he is mulling to join the Third Front as his party has failed to live upto the expectations of the people.
“For me, Peoples Conference is like my home and Sajad Lone is like my son. If he is interested, there is a talk of third front, it should emerge and be encouraged. If it (third front) emerges, I will seriously consider joining it,” Baig said.
The veteran leader, who was considered to be the close aide of the former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has put his weight behind Sajad Lone, who was asked by Ram Madhav, BJP’s point man for J&K, to work out a road map for the formation of new government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Baig’s assertion seems to be the first step towards the formation of the new dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir. There are reports that PDP rebels have already entered into an agreement with the BJP and the numbers are being cobbled up to form the government in the state.
After the death of late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Muzaffar Baig had played a pivotal role in convincing Mehbooba Mufti and the BJP to stitch an alliance. But as soon as the government was formed Baig was sidelined and he was left alone.
Soon after BJP pulled out from the PDP led government in June this year, Baig’s nephew, Javed Hussain Baig, who is also MLA Baramulla, rebelled against the party leadership and joined the Imran Ansari led group. He had criticized the PDP leadership for sidelining a leader like Baig and allowing “non-entities” to call the shots. It looks like that Baigs have decided to say goodbye to the PDP.
