I&B minister asks PIB to initiate action on JKPA’s Memorandum: Kaloo

Srinagar, Nov 20: Jammu Kashmir Press Association President G H Kaloo on Tuesday said that Information and Broadcasting (I&B) minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has asked Press Information Bureau (PIB) to initiate action on the association’s memorandum.
Kaloo said a delegation of JKPA visited New Delhi on March 20, 2018 on the invitation of Simriti Irani, former Minister I&B, and held an interactive session besides presented and discussed Memorandum of demands threadbare.
“Later the matter was taken up with her successor, Rathore, who issued directions to PIB to take action on the memorandum submitted by him,” he said.
Kaloo said that he received a copy of the letter on Tuesday, which directed the PIB to take action.
He said the Memorandum contained number of demands with emphasis on the inhospitable environment where J&K Media in general and Kashmir-based Publishers in particular have been facing umpteen hardships. “Their working conditions have no parallels in other States of India as there are frequent Strikes, Restrictions, Snapping of Mobile and Internet Services and no advertisement support from the Private Sector,” he said.
“Hence they need sufficient advertisement support both from the DAVP and other Central Agencies to run their establishments the Memorandum read,” Kaloo said.
He said besides the Accreditation Policy of the Central government needs reappraisal to include Editors in the eligibility list. “It is ironical that the Job-Providers are denied Accreditation while as their Employees provided this facility and that too on the recommendation of the former,” he added.
