Municipal Committee Kargil elects President, Vice President

Kargil, Nov 14: The election to the post of President and Vice President of Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Vikas Kundal here.
Zaheer Hussain who had contested as an independent candidate was elected President of the committee while as independent candidate Gulzar Hussain was elected as the vice-president by the margin of 1 vote in each case.
Zaheer got 7 votes out of 13 and defeated another contestant candidate Advocate Khadim Hussain while as Gulzar also got 7 votes out of 13 by defeating candidate Mohammad Ali.
The election process to this effect was held at the Conference Hall of Tourist Facilitation Center (TFC) Kargil.
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor invited the proposal of names for the posts of President and Vice-President from all the members which was followed by the secret ballot voting.
Ashiq Hussain member MCK Ward No.13-Baroo IV proposed the name of Advocate Khadim Husssain member of MCK Ward No.11-Baroo II for President which was seconded by Haji Mohammad Ali MCK Ward No.9-Poyen Bagh-e-Khomeini while as Shabir Hussain MCK Ward No.8 Poyen proposed the name of Zaheer Hussain MCK Ward No.2- Chanchik II seconded by Surya Fatima MCK Ward No.4 Draythang Balti Bazar.
Similarly, Jaffar Ali MCK Ward No.5-Dass Pishoo proposed the name of Gulzar Hussain member of MCK Ward No.12-Baroo III for the post of Vice-President which was seconded by Zaheer Hussain MCK Ward No.2-Chanchik II while as Khadim Hussain member of MCK Ward No.11-Baroo II proposed the name of Mohammad Ali MCK Ward No.6-Goma Kargil I seconded by Haji Mohammad Ali MCK Ward No.9- Poyen Bagh e Khomeini.
After been elected as President Zaheer Hussain thanked all members for having elected him and sought their full support and cooperation to work for the overall development of Kargil town. He said that he is committed to work for the welfare of the people of Kargil town and his priority would be to mitigate the issues confronting the people.
Executive Officer, MC Kargil Abdul Gaffar Zargar, Headquarter Assistant to DC Kargil, Muhammad Shabir, Assistant Director Information Kargil, Muhammad Ali Tak and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
Pertinently, Independents had gained a majority in the recently concluded ULB polls in Kargil Municipal Committee which has a total of 13 wards in which the Independents had won 8 seats while as the candidates had secured 5 seats.
