Lt Gen Bhatt urges local militants to shun path of violence, join mainstream

Baramulla, Nov 12: Asserting that no operation under the name ‘Operation All Out’ is being carried out by security forces in Kashmir valley, a top Army commander on Monday urged the local militants to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream.
GOC 15 Crops Lt Gen A K Bhatt further said that even if a local militant wants to surrender during encounter, the Army will still accept it. However, Lt Gen Bhatt added that if a youth picks up gun, the security forces will have to neutralize him.
“First of all let me clarify that no operation under the name of ‘Operation All Out’ is being carried out by security forces in the valley. We have been urging local militants to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream. Our offer of surrender is valid even during encounters. If a militant wishes to surrender even during an encounter, he can do so,” Lt Gen Bhatt told reports on a sideline of a function in here on Monday.
On the reports about Kashmiri student Ehtisham Bilal, who went missing from his Greater Noida College since October 4, has joined the militants, the GOC 15 Corps said that there was no confirmation about him joining militant ranks. “We are still investigating the reports and whether he has joined militant ranks or not can be said only after the probe is complete,” he added.
Answering a question about ceasefire violation by Pakistan from across the Line of Control (LoC) and international Border (IB) in J&K, he said the India Army is ready to give a befitting reply to Pak troops.
Meanwhile, appealing to state governments to take measure to keep Kashmiri students, who are studying in different parts of the country, safe, the GOC said the Governor himself intervened in many cases were youth from the valley were allegedly harassed.
