Man injured in bear attack in south Kashmir’s apple orchard

Srinagar, Nov 11: A man was injured in a bear attack while he was working in his apple orchard in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Sunday.
Official sources said that a man, identified as Ghulam Rasool Ganai, was working in his apple orchard, which was damaged due to heavy snowfall last week.
However, they said a bear entered the orchard from a nearby forest. “Before the man could react, the bear attacked and wounded him,” they said.
They said cry for help from Ganai attracted villagers, who chased away the bear, adding the injured was immediately taken to a hospital.
“Early snowfall has forced wildlife animals to come towards villages in the search of food. There is a serious food shortage in the forest due to early heavy snowfall,” they added.
