Former army man turned militant, among 2 killed in Shopian gunfight: Police

Srinagar, Nov 6:  Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including a former army soldier, were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, police said.
A police spokesman in a statement said that the government forces launched a cordon and search operation in Safanagri village following inputs about the presence of militants in the area. Militants present there opened fire on the search party which was retaliated triggering a gunfight in which two militants were killed.
He identified the slain as Mohammad Idrees Sultan alias Chota Abrar S/o Mohammad Sultan R/o Safanagri Shopian, and Amir Hussain Rather alias Abu Sobaan S/o Mohammad Amin Rather of Awneera Shopian.
