Cultural Academy holds drama festival in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 5: Annual Drama Festival organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages took off here Monday evening with theatre lovers hailing the revival of the important cultural activity in the Valley.
In all, eight plays will be staged in as many days at Tagore Hall Srinagar. The festival began with the drama ‘Oban Gam Dashtaradthi’ by a Jammu based Theatre Group known as Natraj Natiyakanj Cultural Society. A large audience including theatre persons watched the play and appreciated the performers.
Declaring the festival open, Urdu Editor Cultural Academy Muhammad Ashraf Tak said that the Academy was committed to revival of theatre in the Valley and the current festival was a significant step towards this direction.
Describing the Academy as the premier institution to promote and propagate theatre in the State, Tak said that to achieve this objective several steps were being taken by the JKAACL.
Renowned dramatist, Dr Bashir Bhawani was the chief guest on the occasion.
Other plays to be staged during the festival include Almarhi, Yeth Wav Hall, Damkhotar, Parchuen, College Pathar, Tsander and Khar Kalah. (CNS)
