HP&M suspends Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for C-Grade apple

Srinagar, Nov 4: Horticulture planning and Marketing department of the Jammu and Kashmir government has suspended the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) which was implemented in valley for the last more than one decade to provide minimum support price to the fruit growers for the C-Grade apple otherwise destroyed in the orchards.
Sources said that under the market intervention scheme the horticulture, planning and marketing department used to lift C-Grade apple from orchards for apple concentration plants which had increased the production apple juice in Kashmir valley but this year the department has suspended the scheme for unknown reasons.
President, Fruit Growers and Dealers Association zone Mawer, Raja Akbar said that “due to hailstorm plenty of C-Grade apple was available in the orchards this year but the officials of HP&M department didn’t bother to lift the C-Grade for apple concentration plants to offer us the minimum support price for the yield. Even compensation for the damaged crops caused by several rounds of hailstorm this year has not been sanctioned as per announcement by the government so far.”
Horticulture Planning and Marketing department said “We had sent a proposal for lifting the C-Grade apple from orchards but the proposal has not been approved by the administrative department as yet.” (KNS)
