Kishtwar, Nov 2: BJP leader and his brother who were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Thursday night were cremated amid tensions in Kishtwar district of Jammu region on Friday. Amid curfew, a large number of people participated in cremation process.
The Indian Army staged a flag march in communally-sensitive Kishtwar while curfew continued in the town following angry protests after the killing of Anil Parihar (52), BJP State Secretary and his elder brother Ajeet Parihar (56).
On Thursday night Parihar brothers were returning home from their shop when they were fired upon from close range at a dark, narrow lane leading to their house. The killings sparked violent protest prompting authorities to impose curfew and call army to maintain law and order.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh said that curfew remained imposed in the town and prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which bans the gathering of more than four people, has been clamped in Chatroo and Padder sub-divisions of the district to avoid any law and order problem.
Pertinently, the communal infested district will go for Panchayat polls from Mid November.
