Srinagar, Oct 29: Prominent Gujjar leader and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kangan, Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed displeasure over the “pathetic” condition of tribal community living in different areas of the Bandipora constituency in the north Kashmir district.
In a statement, Mian Altaf said that several tribal areas where the Gujjar population is residing are without basic amenities.
Mian Altaf said that “even in the present time the areas are virtually live in dark ages due to total lack of development.”
“The condition of Gujjar populated areas is pathetic. The basic infrastructure is non-existent. The proper basic amenities of life like the water, the electricity and the health facilities are nowhere available in these areas.”
The former minister urged the administration to ensure developmental works are taken up for the welfare and uplift of this community.
“The funds released under schedule tribe and scheduled caste schemes are not used for development of Gujjar community, adding that the funds should be utilized properly and specifically for the development and upliftment of the community” he said.
Mian Altaf, who is on a visit to Bandipora was apprised by the locals about their grievances, particularly about unemployment and developmental issues, like lack of road infrastructure, power supply and acute shortage of water and health infrastructure, the statement added. (KNS)
