3 days before shifting of Durbar offices to Jammu, Babus allegedly go missing

Srinagar, Oct 24: While three days are still left for shifting of move offices to Jammu, a large number of officials have allegedly preferred to keep away from their offices here.
The move offices including the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar will close on October 27, to reopen in winter capital, Jammu on November 6.
“Most of the bureaucrats skip their duties or stay only one or two hours in office as it seems that there is no accountability on them these days,” said Habibullah a senior resident of Srinagar who has been trying for the last two days to meet a top official here.
Showkat Ahmad, a resident of the Handwara Kupwara has been trying to meet a top official in the industries and commerce department here but found him missing from the office. “From last three days I many times visited his office but every time the officials told me that he is not available,” Showkat alleged.
Sources said that though lower ranking officials reach the offices but are not able to work in absence of the in-charges.
Sources informed that some low ranking officials prefer to go on leave or not attend offices as they are unable to bear the enormous pressure and work load without the higher officials.
Common people have expressed displeasure over the functioning of government offices.
People alleged that the government officers receive their salaries and other benefits, but they do not perform their duty in a proper way in the valley.
Waseem Ahmad of Baramulla said he had been visiting one of the top babu here for the last few days, but every time he could not find him in the office.
“Hardly any work is being done these days. The bureaucrats have already packed their bags even though three days are still left for the Durbar to remain functional here,” he said.
Sources said that some officials skip their official duties or come office after 1 pm daily as per their wish.
Sources said these senior officers are not adhering the office timing resulting the work in offices get affected. “Government has cracked a whip on lower rung officials and suspended many who skip their duties. But there is no check on the administrative heads and HODs,” said one of the officials here.
One of the top officials of the government said that the authorities have been directed to take strict action against officials found absent from the duty. (KNS)
