Srinagar, Oct 24: Two militants were killed and six forces’ personnel injured in a gun battle at Sothu Kothair area of Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday morning, police said.
Two militants have been killed and six forces’ personnel wounded in the gunfight, DIG central Kashmir V K Birdi told reporters.
A local news agency GNS identified the slain militants as Sabzar Sofi of Sangam, Anantnag and Asif Ahmad Gojri of Anantnag. Massive clashes broke out in the area with youth taking to streets to disrupt the operation.
Authorities have snapped Internet in Srinagar and Budgam as a “precautionary measure” to prevent law and order situation.
Meanwhile, police issued an advisory requesting people to stay away from the encounter site. “ People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” a police spokesman said.
