Srinagar, Oct 16: Incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir, Masarat Aalam Bhat was on Tuesday brought from Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu to Srinagar for the hearing of a case 2015 lodged against him.
Aalam was produced in Additional District and Session Judge where after hearing the arguments; the judge fixed the next hearing of the said case on 2018/10/30, a statement said.
After hearing, Masrat was taken back to Kotbalwal Jail Jammu, League Spokesman Sajad Ayobi said, adding that State and Central government has set “new policies and methods” for his continuous imprisonment under what he termed as “baseless cases”, which he termed as “worst kind of human rights violation and highly condemnable.”
“The government is deliberately doing it under a plan so that he is not released by the court. Prolonging the illegal detention of Masarat expresses their frustration,” he said, adding that the policy adopted by the government through which Masarat is being moved from one police station to another cannot break his will and courage.
He said Govt instead of honouring court orders are ignoring all norms and rules, saying that “Alam is being subjected to political vendetta.”
He said Masrat’s PSA has been quashed by judiciary and even 36th PSA is about to complete, but despite that “he has been implicating in fictitious cases and languished in jail which is worst form of human rights violation.”
He said Masrat Aalam Bhat was 19-years-old when he was arrested first time and was lodged in jail for three years, after his release, he was arrested again in 1997 and was booked under PSA for four years, later in 2006 he was arrested again and after Act quashed and after days of release he was arrested again in 2008 and since then Masarat is being moved from one police station to another, it cannot break his will and courage, he added.
League spokesman appealed the rights-defender bodies including Bar Association Kashmir, amnesty International, Red Cross and Human Rights Watch to take the note of “worst political revenge against Masrat Aalam and illegal detention by the government” and asked them to play their role. (KNS)
