100 foreign militants infiltrated this year into Kashmir: GoC

Srinagar, Oct 17: Lieutenant General and General Officer in Command, Chinar Corps Anil Kumar Bhat has denied carrying out operation ‘All Out’ in Kashmir against militancy.
In an exclusive interview to a national news channel, the Army Commander said, “There is nothing like operation ‘All Out’ in Kashmir, we are doing kinetic operations as well as non kinetic operations to bring peace in the valley.”
Anil Kumar Bhat said that in order to bring the peace in the valley, only counter insurgency operations are not a solution. He said other things are also needed on different fronts for peace and the Army is working on them.
Nearly 140 local young people have joined militancy in Kashmir so far this year and this is the highest number of local militant recruitment in a decade. According to Bhat, it is concerning the security scenario and he blamed radicalisation by Pakistan, separatist elements in Kashmir and social media for this.
Army commander also said that almost 3 to 4 attempts of infiltration on Line of Control are being foiled on a daily basis. He said despite strong anti infiltration grid in place about 100 foreign militants have managed infiltrating in Kashmir this year and more than 250 militants are on different launching pads across LOC ready to infiltrate.
However, he confirmed that the security situation is improving in the valley evident from the smooth Amarnath yatra this year and successful civic polls in Jammu and Kashmir. “The number of stone pelting incidents has also come down as compared to last two years,” Bhat said.
