The Government of India has shifted its entire focus on youth in Kashmir and it wants to channelize their energy in a positive way.
Governor Satya Pal Malik recently said that the most important stakeholders in the peace process are J&K’s youth and it is essential to engage them regularly and effectively to give impetus to peace and development in the state.
The people at the helm have realized that youth cannot be ignored and they have to be engaged. Since the day PDP-BJP government has fallen in Jammu and Kashmir, the GoI seems to have changed its priorities. The people sitting in New Delhi seem least interested in the Kashmir based politicians and the leaders who have been ruling the state for years together.
The GoI has changed its strategy and is looking to bring new faces to fore. It looks like that the New Delhi has realized that old tactics won’t work. Neither would old players be able to deliver. There is every possibility about youth leaders appearing in Kashmir as the search is on. The Urban Local Bodies polls are almost over and a foreign returned young man is all set be the new Mayor of Srinagar. There is every possibility about New Delhi projecting him as the new face of politics in the Valley. People sitting in national capital are making an effort to project new faces as the role models for the youth of Kashmir. Young boys joining militant ranks have perturbed one and all. New Delhi wants to reverse the trend by opening different avenues for the youth and it appears that new game plan is to involve youth in mainstream politics and provide them with a chance to replace the traditional politicians.
