Former minister and the president of Peoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone has hit out at National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party for boycotting the urban local bodies and panchayat polls.
He after casting his vote on Monday said that his party had boycotted the elections for 25 years and now let the PDP and NC do the same for next 25-years.
His assertion was clear that boycott politics has yielded nothing nor will it yield anything in future also. He dared PDP and NC leaders to vacate their bungalows at Gupkar in Srinagar and give up the privileges which they are enjoying.
Since the day PDP-BJP government has fallen in the state the mainstream politics in the Valley has taken a turn. It’s being felt that NC and PDP are coming closer while on the other hand efforts are on to come up with a Third Front to challenge the political hegemony of Abdullahs and Muftis. A notion is being created that Jammu and Kashmir has to get rid of the family rule to put the system back at place and restore normalcy in J&K.
Sajad Lone has been at the forefront. Soon after the PDP-BJP government fell he was projected as the next Chief Minister of the state. Still many people believe that a new dispensation would be at place soon after the ULB and Panchayat polls are over as many “like minded” legislators are willing to support Sajad Lone and the PDP rebels.
National Conference and PDP by staying away from the ULB and Panchayat polls had tried to drive home a point that they are in full agreement with the separatist camp but both the parties have not got the desired response. Many NC and PDP leaders and workers are asking has the boycott politics served any purpose?
