Bhang cultivation destroyed in Bijbihara

Anantnag, Oct 5: Excise department in association with revenue and police department destroyed Bhang cultivation on 45 kanals of land in Gurree/Kandirpora area of Bijbehara.
The Bijbehara area is infamous for cultivation of the banned crop. Excise Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir, Talat Parvaiz Ruhela, Deputy Excise Commissioner Kashmir (Executive) Mohd Farooq Dar, Tehsildar Bijbehara, ETO South Kashmir range Saleem Akbar and SHO Bijbehara were supervising the massive drive.
Deputy Excise Commissioner Kashmir Mohd Farooq Dar said that people sow the cannabis in their apple orchards, maize fields and most of the area under its cultivation was cleared in the drive.
“Last month a drive to destroy bung was conducted in the same area and 85 kanals of land were cleared,” he said.
An officer from excise department said that they will clear every single inch of land where cannabis has been cultivated.
“Both cultivated and wild cannabis are here and we are going to clear it all without giving up under any pressure from smugglers and cultivators,” he said.
