Srinagar, Oct 3: The employees of the fisheries department on Wednesday threatened to lock down all their offices against the department’s anti-employee move on promotions.
Reports said that dozens of employees of the fisheries department Wednesday afternoon converged at Srinagar’s Pratap Park and staged a demonstration against the alleged anti-employee policies of the department. Shouting slogans, the protesting employees said that their department has sent a proposal to the state government calling for revision in promotion rules.
“Earlier, 75 percent of the promotions used to be departmental while 25 percent were made through SSRB. Now, the department has proposed promotions on fifty, fifty basis by the department and the SSRB. This will impact hundreds of employees serving the department,” Ajaz Ahmad, a protester said.
Calling this proposal anti-employee, Ahmad said that the employees will be forced to shut down all the offices of the department if the ‘draconian’ proposal is not shelved.
“We won’t let the department play with the future of 1600 employees. We will launch a stir and the responsibility of it will lie on the government,” he added. (GNS)
