National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party hinting at the possibility about burying the hatchet and coming forward to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir seems to have unnerved the Peoples Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone and the PDP rebel group.
If PDP and NC join hands then the dreams of many people could get shattered. They are waiting for the panchayat and municipal polls to get over so that they can once again start the process of working out permutations and combinations to form the government.
Statements being issued by NC and PDP leaders have pressed the panic button even within the BJP camp as the party till the recent past was of the opinion that no government in J&K could be formed without its support. The BJP leaders had written off the PDP-NC alliance. But it looks like that the situation is changing as both the Kashmir based parties have realized that they cannot remain dependent on New Delhi forever and they would have to stand on their own feet to prevent BJP from making inroads into Kashmir.
Nothing concrete has come to fore so far but the talks about both the parties joining hands have ruffled many people, including the ones sitting in New Delhi.
Sajad Lone, who is being projected as the new Chief Minister of J&K, and his friends, including Imran Raza Ansari, would have to come up with new ideas to keep their hopes alive. If they just keep on watching the developments and wait for something big to happen on its own, they would lose a chance to come up with a one more front. If the NC and PDP decided to take on BJP head on then a few people who are talking about a change would just turn into fence sitters and would have nowhere to go.
