Protests rock KU, IUST against civilian killing

Srinagar, Sep 27: The students of Kashmir University on Thursday held a protest against the killing of a civilian during a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Qamarwari area of Srinagar.
The students from various departments came out of their classes and assembled in the premises of Humanities department to protest the killing of Muhammad Saleem Malik in Noorbagh area of Qamarwari.

They shouted anti-governmental, anti-administration pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans, the protesting students carried banners reading, ‘Stop Genocide’, Free Kashmir’ ‘Stop killings’.
Meanwhile, Protests erupted in Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on Thursday against the killing of a civilian during a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) launched by the government forces in Srinagar.
Muhammad Saleem Malik was killed after forces launched the CASO in Noorbagh area of Qamarwari around 5 am today.
Reports said the students from various departments assembled on the IUST campus to protest the civilian killing.
The protesting students were demanding action against the “killers” and end to the civilian killings.
“They [students] are peacefully protesting against the civilian killing and have assembled inside the campus. The gate is closed and students won’t be allowed to take their protest outside,” said a varsity official.
