Anantnag, Sep 23: Residents of Nathpora Khanabal Anantnag staged a protest against non availability of drinking water to their area from last one month.
Elderly people and women came out on streets and appealed Public Health Engineering Department to look into the problem.
Nazir Ahmad, a resident of the area said “the irony is we live in heart of town but don’t get drinking water while as the catchment area of Bumzua filtration plant has been spread to many areas not coming under DPR.”
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer PHE division Bijbehera Bashir Ahamd Shah on the instructions of SE South Hydraulics , Engineer Khalil Ahamed Najar deputed team of officials to look into the problem and pacified the residents.
In the backdrop of protest a high level meeting of PHE officers was held in the office of SE South Hydraulics where details were sought from all concerned Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers about the catering area of Bumzua filtration plant.
In the meeting it was felt that due to carelessness of some officials the catering area of Bumzua filtration plant has been extended to those areas who were not coming under DPR.
A consensus in the meeting was evolved to only provide drinking water to those areas that have been purely mentioned in DPR.
SE, South Hydraulics, Engineer Khalil Ahamd Najar while talking to media said need of the hour is to check this unwanted practice to supply drinking water to those far flung areas not mentioned in DPR. He directed officials not to allow these practices and don’t succumb under any sort of unwanted influence. He further added we must purely adhere to the guidelines mentioned in DPR. He directed officials of PHE to look into the problem of Nathpora, Anantnag.
Locals have hailed this gesture of PHE department and officers concerned.
