Several SPO’s announce resignation in local mosques, Police term it rumours
Shopian, Sep 21: A constable and two Special Police Officer (SPOs) were abducted from Kaprin and Batagund area of Shopian district and later their bodies were recovered from Dangam Shopian village. The brother of slain Constable Nisar Ahmed, who was also abducted along with the three personnel, was set free. The abductions were made from the houses of the policemen in two villages.
The slain cops were identified as SPO Kuldeep Singh son of Doopsingh, SPO Firdous Ahmed Kuchey son of Abdul Gani Kuchay, both residents of Batagund Shopian and Constable Nisar Ahmed Dhobi son of Abdul Rashid Dhobi, a resident of Kaprin Shopian.
Earlier, Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Riyaz Naiko had issued a threat to the SPO’s warning them of dire consequences in case they don’t abdicate their jobs.
A police official said that the killings is the handiwork of militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen to create panic among local cops. IGP Kashmir SP Pani said that those involved in the murder of the cops would be brought to justice.
At least eight people whose relatives worked in Jammu and Kashmir Police were abducted on the night of 30 August last month.
After the killing of three cops, a number of cops took to social media announcing their resignations. These videos are viral and being extensively shared by netizens in Kashmir Valley.
Reports said that over 33 SPO’s including those working with Railway Police appeared in locals mosques during Friday congregational prayers and announced resignations on loud speakers. These cops hail from Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam districts. Eyewitnesses said that 7 cops working with Railway police announced their resignations in local mosque at Reshipora area of Awantipora. Nine SPO’s from Shopian district also declared their resignations in locals mosques of Hajipora, Habdipora, Jamnagar, Kellar, Hunhama Nagbal and Reban villages. From Qazigund two SPO’s did the same thing. Muhammad Iqbal Ganai, PSO of CPI(M) leader announced his resignation in Noorbagh Kulgam.
Some SPO’s from Okai, Awhatoo, Balhama Devsar Kulgam, Wahibugh Pulwama also announced their resignations before public.
Meanwhile, Police said that no policeman has resigned in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the killing of three police personnel by suspected militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The state police spokesman said that the news about the resigning of SPOs in J&K is baseless. “No SPO, or policeman has resigned, these are just rumors,” he said. (CNS)
