Srinagar, Sep 19: Despite passing of 12 years, the authorities have failed to complete Rawalpora Bridge. Strong resentment is brewing among locals against inordinate delay in completion of the project.
A local resident said that “the work on the project was started before many years and government had assured us the bridge would be completed in four years, but still under construction. In view of importance of the bridge, people living on two sides of Ahiji canal in the area extended cooperation to the authorities. Ironically, they have failed to complete the project within stipulated time”, he said.
The locals urged government to direct concerned authorities to ensure completion of the bridge.
Firdous Nabi a social activist of Khansahab Budgam said that “it has become a routine for authorities to initiate a project, construct some pillars or plinth and then leave it halfway,” he also said that it is because of non- seriousness of officials that Kashmir is losing race on various projects. It is unfortunate that government always extend deadlines rather than making officials account able for their failure to complete projects on time,”
When contact to AEE R&B Division Khan Sahib, he said that work was delayed due to encroachments on the site and fund problems and now construction process will be start again and we are hopeful that bridge will be completed soon.
