President of the Peoples Democratic Party and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti is trying her best to restore the credibility of her party by trying to prove that when she was in power she did whatever she could do to save the interests of Kashmir.
Her recent assertion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured her that Article 35A would be put in a cold storage seems to be an attempt aimed at telling the people of Kashmir that her decision to align with the BJP was correct.
She is trying to tell the people that till her party was in the power there was no threat to the special status of the state. Now the PDP-BJP government has fallen anything can happen and the special status of Jammu and Kashmir is under threat.
Mehbooba it looks like is trying to warn the people about the consequences they can face in coming days as New Delhi can do anything in absence of a political government in the state.
She is trying to defend her decision about not pulling out of the government when the Centre refused to file a counter affidavit in support of the Article 35A.
Someone needs to tell the PDP chief that the government which she headed for more than two years was marred with controversies and it couldn’t do much vis-à-vis Kashmir. Former chief minister has gone into damage control mode and is trying to win back the trust of the people by playing a victim card which is finding no takers in the Valley. People are of the opinion had PDP not joined hands with the BJP, today the situation would have been different and the mainstream parties would not have been at the verge of becoming irrelevant.
