Desperate attempts being made by the president of the Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti to keep her party intact seem to have gone in a vain.
Recently she nominated two senior PDP leaders Altaf Bukhari and Haseeb Drabu as the members of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party. However, Drabu turned down the panel’s membership stating that “PAC lacks authority.”
The former Finance Minister Drabu was shunted out by Mehbooba Mufti from her cabinet earlier this year after he landed up in a controversy by stating: “Kashmir is not a political issue but a society with social issues.”
Drabu was not even a given a chance to explain and was sacked. By refusing to be a PAC member Drabu has hit back. When he was sacked by the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti he faced lot of embarrassment. He had played a vital role in stitching an alliance between the PDP and Bharatiya Janata Party in 2015. Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had given full authority to Drabu to forge an alliance with the BJP. He was considered to be very close to late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Drabu has written a letter to the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti reminding her that he had joined the party in 2014 and he was inducted into the PAC by the PDP patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. It seems he has written these lines to just tell Mehbooba that he was not in the PDP due to her.
He refusing to join the PAC is an indication that Drabu is also with the rebels and is not interested in carrying on with the Mehbooba Mufti led PDP. Drabu saying goodbye to PDP has made it clear that party has split and the formation of Third Front is on cards.
