According to report in The Times of India, Shaw may make his senior debut at Kennington Oval on Friday. India have already lost the ongoing series and the fifth Test might see both the sides making some changes to their line-up.
India’s top order has failed to impress in this series and India may give the young Prithvi Shaw a chance. Shaw is likely to replace the struggling KL Rahul at the top of the order. Rahul has only mustered 113 runs in eight innings in this series.
Shaw has impressed everyone, specially junior coach Rahul Dravid, with his performance at the junior level. He had also led the U-19 team to the World Cup earlier this year. Shaw was called up after the third Test by the selectors in place of Murali Vijay.
Shaw was a part of the India A side that toured England- he scored 151 runs in the tri-series from four innings and followed up with 250 runs in four innings in unofficial Tests. In the home series against South Africa A, he scored 136 runs in the first unofficial Test before making it to the national team.
According to the report, R Ashwin may also be rested for the match after he is reported to have picked up while batting in the fourth test on Sunday. Ravindra Jadeja may replace the off-spinner.
The fifth and the final Test of the series starts Friday, September 7.
