Civilian killed, 3 injured in Awantipora grenade attack

Srinagar, Aug 17: A civilian was killed and three others were injured in a grenade attack by militants on security force personnel at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Official sources said that militants hurled a grenade at security force personnel near Superintendent of Police (SP) Office Awantipora in Pulwama on Friday. However, the grenade missed the target and exploded at a distance, resulting in injuries to four civilians.
The injured was immediately taken to a hospital from where one of them was referred to SHMS hospital in Srinagar in a critical condition. However, the injured, identified as Abdul Ahad, succumbed in the evening.
They said the militants managed to escape from the spot due to the chaos created following the explosion. Additional security forces have been rushed and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.
