Two arrested over Khrew rifle snatching bid: Police

Srinagar, Aug 13: Two persons have been arrested for attacking and attempting to snatch the rifle of a bank guard in Khrew area, police said Monday.
A spokesman said that two persons barged inside Jammu and Kashmir Khrew branch on August 10 and attacked the guard Mumtaz Ahmad with pepper spray and a sharp-edged weapon.
He said the duo tried to snatch 12-bore rifle of the guard. “…but the security guard bravely resisted the attempts made to snatch his rifle thereby successfully foiling the rifle snatching bid,” said the spokesman.
Mumtaz sustained injuries and was evacuated to Khrew hospital for medical treatment while the accused fled from the spot, he said.
“Consequent upon this case FIR No. 57/2018 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Khrew and the investigation in the instant matter was initiated,” said the spokesman.
“During the course of investigation it came across that two OGWs namely Yasir Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Babapora and Yawar Sultan son of Mohd Sultan resident of Shar Shali Khrew were involved in commission of crime and were subsequently arrested. Investigation of the case is still going on.”
