Govt without Mehbooba?

Govt without Mehbooba?

As the annual Amarnath pilgrimage has entered into last phase Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified the efforts to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav visited Srinagar on Thursday and held series of meetings with the BJP leaders, PDP rebels and party’s ally Sajad Lone.
Speculations are rife that BJP leaders want to join the hands with the PDP but want to keep Mehbooba Mufti away from the alliance.
The PDP rebels led by the former minister Imran Raza Ansari have already raised a banner of revolt against the PDP leadership and they have announced that they have parted ways. Efforts of the PDP leadership to get the rebels back into the party fold have not materialized.
According to the media reports a few PDP leaders are of the opinion that rebels should not be allowed to take the advantage of the situation. They had mooted the idea of projecting the senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh as the Chief Ministerial candidate but it seems the idea has not worked.
If the political uncertainty continues there is every possibility about PDP splitting into two as the legislators believe that there are still more than two years left for the tenure of the present assembly to end. Many MLAs, who won the 2014 assembly elections for the first time, are keen on having the political dispensation at place as they claim that they want to do something for the people.
The bottom line is that even if the government is formed it would be without the former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti as she seems to be a “misfit” in the new scheme of things.
