Rafiabad gunfight: Another militant killed; toll five

Srinagar, Aug 8: Security forces gunned down 5th militants on Thursday morning in the woods of Rafiabad in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, where a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) operation was launched early Wednesday morning.
Four militants were killed Wednesday in the encounter.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said that 5th militant was also killed Thursday morning by the security forces. He said operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
Troops of Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in the forest at Rafiabad in Baramulla early Wednesday morning.
During the day-long operation four unidentified militants were killed. Later the operation was suspended due to darkness to avoid any casualty. However, Thursday morning the operation was resumed and finally the contact with the militants was established. Another militant was killed this morning. An Army jawan was also injured in the encounter who has been admitted to Base hospital, Srinagar.
Dr Vaid has earlier said there were five militants hiding in the woods.
Meanwhile, official sources said that the bodies of the slain militants were buried with the help of local Auqaf committee at a graveyard in Hamam Markote village Thursday in the evening.
A police officer confirmed that all the five unidentified foreign militants were buried in the area. “The slain belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit”.
The slain militants were killed in a two-day long gunfight which started on Wednesday and concluded today morning at Naldaji forests of Rafiabad.
