4 drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 5: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered contraband in two different places in south Kashmir, including on Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
A police spokesperson on Sunday said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established near Jawahar Tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir.
He said police intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 12 kg of poppy straw. “Two people onboard the vehicle, identified as Barinder Singh son of Gurbachan Singh resident of Hoshiarpur Punjab and Hardeep Singh son of Tarlochan Singh resident of Hoshiarpur Punjab, were immediately taken into custody.
He said during a naka checking, people arrested two drug peddlers alongwith 2 kg of charas at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
“The drug peddlers were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Shah and Mehraj Ahmad Rather,” he added.
Police have registered cases in both the incidents and initiated investigation to nab other people involved in drug trafficking.
