Srinagar, Jul 30: G R Beg Memorial Trust organized a blood donation camp in memory of Late Ghulam Rasool Beg, a veteran trade union leader and founder of J&K Government Employee Conference, at SKIMS, Soura here. The camp was inaugurated by Prof Aleem Jan, HOD Blood Bank SKIMS.
The Trust in a statement said, “We are always encouraged to devote ourselves to the principle of community service.”
About 60 to 70 people registered for blood donation out of which 40 were able to donate blood after going through a series of medical checkups.
“The donors were given refreshments and vote of thanks for this service to humanity,” the statement said.
Welcoming those present at the camp and media, Prof Aleem Jan said everyone should donate blood as it replicates human values and social responsibility towards the society. “Blood can’t be manufactured as other things can, it can only be given to save lives,” he said.
Ishtiyaq Beigh, chairman G R Beg Memorial Trust and President NGEWA SKIMS was the first to donate blood.
“Donating blood is a life-saving attempt. You don’t lose anything if you donate blood as the human body has a regenerating mechanism,” Ishtiyaq Beigh said.
He stressed on the need to organise blood donation camp on regular basis and urged all sections of the society to contribute towards the society and save lives. (GNS)
