Srinagar, Jul 24: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man was killed and another was injured when militants struck in broad day light in summer capital, Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon, a police spokesman said.
He said security forces had established a naka near the main gate of Fire and Emergency Department headquarter at Batmaloo on Tuesday. However, a group of militants fired upon the naka party in which two CRPF men were critically wounded. The injured were rushed to hospital where one of them identified as Shankar Lal of 23rd Batallion died, a police spokesman confirmed.
Initial investigation into the case has led to some tangible leads on which police is working, he said.
Additional security forces were immediately rushed from nearby District Police Line (DPL), Srinagar and entire area was cordoned off to nab the militants responsible for the attack at a busy place which is less than half a km from civil secretariat, seat of the government. This was the first such attack in the area in broad daylight after the imposition of Governor rule in the state following collapse of PDP-BJP coalition government in the state last month.
Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.
