Srinagar, Jul 23: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday appointed Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Handwara, as inquiry officer to investigate the death of a youth allegedly in Army firing at Trehgam in north Kashmir district of Kupwara on July 13.
An official spokesman said here Monday evening that District Magistrate Kupwara has appointed ADM Handwara, Muzaffar Ahmad Pir (KAS) as inquiry officer to inquire into the death of one person namely Khalid Gaffar Malik, son of Abdul Gaffar Malik, resident of Trehgam Kupwara.
The Inquiry Officer has urged upon all persons who have knowledge about the incident and are desirous to depose and record their statements to appear before him at headquarter DC Office Kupwara from July 25 to August 02, 2018 during office hours.
A 22-year-old Khalid was killed when an Army patrol party resorted to firing at Trehgam Kupwara to disperse demonstrators protesting against the civilian killings in the valley.
Residents alleged army troopers shot Khalid from a very close range when he was shutting his shop.
However, an army spokesperson said the force had opened controlled fire at “an aggressive mob” in “self-defence” in Trehgam in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The government had ordered a probe by a magistrate, and the police have registered a case against the army.
