The Governor’s administration has taken yet another bold step by abolishing the interviews for all class-IV posts in the state. The State Administrative Council which met under the chairmanship of Governor N N Vohra in Srinagar decided that decision would come into effect immediately except for those posts for which selection process has already been initiated.
This was long pending decision but PDP-BJP regime kept it lingering on and failed to take a call on it. During the previous regime many people had alleged that political workers were appointed as class-IV employees during the previous regime. In fact precedence of appointing political workers as class-IV employees has been going for the past many decades but the Governor N N Vohra has made a beginning by abolishing the interviews. This would pave the way for deserving candidates not being ignored.
Many people believe that unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir has surged during the past few years. As per the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India (GOI), Jammu Kashmir has very high unemployment rate and as per a survey conducted by the bureau in 2015-16, Jammu Kashmir has 72 unemployed persons per thousand, which means the number of unemployed youth in the state is over 9 lakh based on the 2011 census.
The security agencies on many occasions have said that unemployment needs to be tackled to restore normalcy in the strife torn Valley.
One hopes that Governor’s administration takes a few more initiatives to address the issue of unemployment in the state so that youth get an opportunity to eke out their livings and live a decent life.
