Chicken, egg prices shoot up in Anantnag

Anantnag, Jul 18: The prices of poultry products have swelled for the past few days with the chicken being sold at Rs 150 per KG as against the government fixed price of Rs 110, the consumers complained.
Same is the market scene with eggs as the lot is being sold at Rs 72 per dozen against the fixed price of Rs 50.
The consumers complained that the prices have shot up since last week.
“I was surprised to know that the chicken now costs Rs 150 per KG even though the new rate list hasn’t been displayed,” said a consumer adding that it was “injustice with them.”
The traders on the other hand said they had nothing to hide about the issue and the “rates were genuine”.
“Basically, the people in Punjab have hiked the import prices of the poultry products to Anantnag and so we have accordingly come up the revised rates,” said a chicken seller in the town suburb.
“Till last week I used to an egg for Rs four per piece but now it costs Rs six,” complained Mohd Shaban.
The consumers accused the authorities of “fleecing them by sleeping over the issue”.
When contacted a senior official in the district administration said the matter had come to his notice and that “requisite action would be initiated soon.”
