Rebel leader of Peoples Democratic Party Abdul Majeed Padder has claimed that 51 MLAs are ready to form the new dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir. His assertion has created ripples.
Since the day PDP-BJP government has fallen the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has 25 seats in the 87 member assembly, has been claiming that its “okay” with Governor’s rule in the state and it has got nothing to with the government formation.
The PDP leaders who have raised the banner of revolt against the party’s top leadership are creating a notion that all the MLAs are with them and Mehbooba has been left alone.
On Sunday also Mehbooba chaired a meeting of PDP leaders in central Kashmir and assured them that party leadership is working hard to address their concerns. The rebels are dropping enough hints to indicate that PDP leaders want a change in leadership and they are ready to form the next government without Mehbooba Mufti and her close aides.
The BJP has not opened its cards and is maintaining that it wants peace to return to the Valley. There are even rumors that BJP wants to have a Hindu Chief Minister at place in J&K but the PDP rebels are opposing the idea.
Many political activities are taking place covertly and the suspense is likely to end after Amarnath Yatra concludes. Mehboba Mufti is making desperate attempts to keep her party intact but it looks like that rebels are calling the shots and they may succeed in roping the BJP once again. For the PDP president time is running out and she would have to act fast to prevent rebels from turning the tables.
