UNHRC report on Kashmir ‘baseless’, says Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, Jul 13: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman Friday called the assessment made by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in its recent report on Kashmir as “baseless”, as quoted by a news agency.
“The report was prepared while sitting somewhere else. The assessment made by UNHRC has no basis. They are not aware of the ground realities in Kashmir,” said Sitharaman.
Throwing her weight behind the Indian Army, the union minister claimed that the forces show maximum restraint in Kashmir.
“The army is able to eliminate militants on the borders itself,” she said.
Touching the subject of Kashmiri youth joining the ranks of militancy, Sitharaman said, “We are keeping an eye on recruitment. We are also focusing on what is motivating them to join terrorism and who is behind motivating them.”
