Srinagar, Jul 12: The Peoples Democratic Party has sacked legislator Yasir Reshi as the party’s district president for Bandipora, cracking the whip on leaders who publically criticized PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
PDP chief spokesperson Rafi Ahmad Mir said that the party has removed Reshi as District President for Bandipora. “The District President Baramulla, Irshad Rasool Kar, will look after the party affairs of Bandipora for time being,” he said.
The action by the PDP high command against Reshi, who is a member of Legislative Council (MLC), comes days after 21 PDP legislators met Mehbooba and pledged their support to her.
Reshi had openly criticized the PDP president, accusing her of nepotism. In a statement issued last week, Reshi had expressed a desire to find an alternative to the traditional two-family system in Jammu and Kashmir. “I am in complete conformity with views expressed recently by my colleagues, to find an alternative to traditional two-family system. The state needs respite from the tried, tested and failed two-family power-sharing model,” read the statement released by Reshi on July 6.
Earlier in the month, PDP leader and former minister Imran Raza Ansari lashed out at Mehbooba and accused her of obliterating the party by promoting nepotism. Similar views were expressed by MLAs — Abid Ansari and Abbas Wani.
These leaders expressed their displeasure with the party high command after BJP pulled out support from the coalition government, forcing Mehbooba to resign as the chief minister of the state.
