Srinagar, Jul 11: It was expected to be a nail biting contest given to circumstances that both teams were equally equipped with batting, bowling and fielding departments. However the Super Sixers were heavily dominant since the inception of the game when their star pacer Manzoor Khan cleaned the opening batsman on the first delivery and handed Saleem the golden duck.
The pace of Sixers was defied by the other opener Mahraj Butt but his innings couldn’t flourish long enough and bit the dust when his individual score was 32 leaving his team in lurch Mehraj couldn’t deliver the expected knock thus brought pressure to their young skipper Murtaza who came to bat and challenged the pace of Sixers. He continued bat with a good expression of shots hit some sixes before he could fall prey to an outside off delivery, went further away from his body but he couldn’t stop himself before nicking the ball and giving wicket keeper Farhat a chance to hold stunner in one hand off the bowling of Shakir. Wrapping up the proceedings bowlers of Sixers were in no mood to let the Players 11 Maidanpora breathe peacefully thus the team were all out on a meagre total of Nelson and set a target of 112 for Super Sixers to chase down.
On pitch which was full of runs 112 was not enough for Players 11 to defend. Super Sixers came to chase with their bats blazing scored 18 runs of the first over which ended adding salt to injuries of Players eleven when their pacer Faisal bowled two consecutive beamers to end his quota of overs in the very first over. This was indeed a huge setback to Players 11 Maidanpora having lost their main bowler. However smilies were brought back to the faces of Players 11 when their pacer Mehraj din clinched the opener Farhat whose bat was flourishing with runs. But some help from the umpire and doubtful decision brought full stop to the innings of Farhat when, he was at 14 he was well assisted by the non-striker Zameer Khan Ishfaq the star batsman of the quarter and semi-final. Zameer who looked silent on the other side took responsibility and his bat started minting runs in quick session, who had till now scored on 11 but shouldered responsibility and hammered and clobbered every bowler out off park thus score a quick fifty. He was helped by Umer on the other end who also powered some towering sixes to finish off the match and lift the trophy.
