Srinagar, Jul 8: Train service remained suspended for security reasons on Sunday for the second day in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike on the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani who was killed by security forces in an encounter on this day in Anantnag in 2016.
On Saturday the separatists had called for a general strike the shifting of Dukhtar-e-Milat (DeM) chief Asiya Andrabi and her two associates by National Security Agency (NSA) to New Delhi, where a court sent her to 10 days remand in connection with anti national activities on Friday.
A fresh advisory was received last night from police to suspend all train runs in the Kashmir valley for security reasons on Sunday also, official sources said.
They said therefore no train will chung on Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir track. Similarly all train runs remained off track on Budgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, they added. This is the second time train service has been suspended in the valley in the month of July. We are acting on the advice of authorities since it involves the safety and security of passengers besides railway staff, they added. In the past railway suffered heavy damage due to stone pelting and other protests in the valley.
