Prison department launches plantation drive

Jammu, Jul 8: A Plantation Drive was launched Sunday by J&K Prisons Department in collaboration with Rotary Club at Institute of Correctional Services, Mishriwala. During the drive many fruit bearing, ornamental and shade giving trees were planted. The Drive started with plantation of first sapling by Dilbag Singh DGP Prisons in presence of BrajeshSinghal , Governor Rotary Club; Rajni Sehgal, Superintendent District Jail Udhampur; Saba Shawl Principal ICS Mishriwala; Rtn Ashok Gupta, Subash Gandotra, Dr. Dushyant and Jaswant Gupta
Addressing the gathering the DGP Prisons said that the cost of afforestation is miniscule when compared to the complacence and as responsible citizens we must proactively participate in such activities. He lauded the role of Rotary Club for being environmentally conscious and for their support in organising the plantation drive. He said the trainees and staff of the Institute must ensure the survival and maintenance of these saplings. He informed that Plantation Drives on similar lines are being organised in the Jails of the State.
A Memento was presented to DGP Prisons Dilbag Singh by Rotary Club as a token of respect. All trainees and staff members participated in the drive by planting trees and pledged to nurture them.
