Shaheen urges Governor to dissolve State Assembly, hold fresh elections

Banihal, Jul 5: National Conference leader and district president Ramban Sajjad Shaheen has urged J&K Governor, N.N. Vohra to exercise his exclusive power vested in him as a Governor of J&K under Section 53 (2)(b) of the Constitution of J&K and dissolve state Assembly to pave way for fresh election to take place in the state.
Lashing out at PDP for facilitating RSS rule in Jammu and Kashmir over the last four years Shaheen said that “There is every apprehension of the BJP- lead government at (centre) conspiring to trample the special identity of the state,” Shaheen said while addressing party functionaries and prominent workers during the day long monthly meeting of Banihal block.
“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was created to “destroy” National Conference soon after the passage of the autonomy resolution in the J&K Assembly, Shaheen said. “(About) this ink-pot party (PDP), it is necessary to think where from it took the birth. The National Conference got the autonomy resolution passed in the Assembly and within months this new party came to the fore. The aim was to destroy National Conference but Allah saved us; the party that was created to destroy us got buried under its own sins, Shaheen said.
Asserting that, BJP is playing a dangerous game of government formation by horse trading and breaking the other, parties Shaheen said that, it will yield nothing except further alienation among the people in Kashmir.
He said, like in the past the enemies of the state are hatching conspiracies to “create more and more divisions among people in Jammu and Kashmir and create leaders in every Mohalla to divide the united voice of Kashmiris.”
“We are being divided in the name of regions, religions, sects and groups. Today we are seeing it,” he said.
Referring to the challenge to Article 35-A, which empowers state legislature to define permanent residents of J&K, in the Supreme Court, Shaheen said: “Today we are facing a threat to our identity,” he said.
Shaheen asked his party workers to start preparations for the next Assembly elections and strengthen the party at grassroots. “If we emerge as the single largest party, then only we can work in a better way,” he said.
Several political workers from Congress and PDP including a recently retired Bank Manager joined NC and resolved to strengthen the party and the hands of party high command. (KNS)
