MLAs of Peoples Democratic Party raising a banner of revolt against the party leadership, especially the party President Mehbooba Mufti seems to have jeopardized the efforts of the PDP to cobble up an alliance with the Congress.
Imran Raza Ansari, former Minister in the cabinet of Mehbooba Mufti, and his uncle Abid Ansari–MLA Zaidabal–have raised the banner of revolt against the party leadership. Both of them claimed that PDP has been turned into “Family Democratic Party” and the party has been hijacked by a few men.
There were speculations that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has approached the Congress high command to seek the support to form the government in J&K but revolt within her party indicates that her party is heading towards a split.
Another PDP MLA Abbas Wani has joined the chorus and he too has echoed the views of Imran and his uncle. Now it’s clear that before thinking about the government formation again PDP would have to set its own house in order. Rumours mills are rife that already a group of MLAs within the PDP has decided to join the hands with the BJP to form the government and J&K would get a new dispensation after Amarnath Yatra ends.
The PDP which had emerged as an alternative for National Conference is on the crossroads. It’s at the verge of getting reduced to a party having only a few family members on board. The former Chief Minister would have to look for ways and means to resurrect the party. As of now PDP’s future looks gloomy and there seems no ray of hope at the end of the tunnel. Time only would decide whether Mehbooba will come up with a surprise or would allow PDP to fall.
